Volunteer Services

Ever since the opening of the facility, the volunteer department has always been viewed as the pride of the Nursing Home.

Keser Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is situated in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. The people of Williamsburg are renowned for their exemplary acts of Chesed (kindness). The community is privileged to have many Bikur Cholims which stand ready to help out in any way that help may be needed.

Many residents of the nursing home have been “adopted” by volunteers as surrogate relatives, i.e. volunteers have invited residents to their homes for Shabbat meals, for Holiday parties as well as to weddings and other social affairs.

Young school girls come on Friday evenings to help light the Shabbat candles with the ladies. Again, on Saturday afternoon large groups of school girls come to do Shabbat afternoon programs which invigorate youthful spirits into the residents.

Beautiful musical concerts are conducted every Sunday by very professional musicians and singers who, not only bring fun and joy but have become personal friends with the patients.

Young women, trained by the rehab department come daily to provide rehabilitation which is in addition to that provided by our staff. These volunteers communicate and socialize with the residents infusing hope, trust and heightened self esteem for each individual.

Meal time is especially wonderful at Keser. Women and men from the community come to help feed residents three times daily. The nursing home provides private transportation for these volunteers who come through all weather conditions to visit and help with meals.

We take pride in the fact that our unique volunteer department has been awarded “Presidential Awards” by President Reagan and by President Bush. We have also received awards from Mayors and Boro Presidents.

The volunteer department always welcomes new volunteers. We are especially seeking volunteers with different languages such as Spanish, Russian or Polish. If you can find some spare time, Please call Alice Hoffman at 718-858-6200 Ex 2012 and leave a message or e mail.

Remember, volunteering is a sacred duty - the life you change may be your very own.
